My Letter to Santa

Dear Santa
For Christmas this year I don't want much for myself a new pair of cross trainers will do or I can just wait and buy them myself, its ok.
But could I please ask that all the people of the world remember that without diversity we learn little, without understanding we lack acceptance and without love of our fellow man, we are bitter...So can you sprinkle some understanding and spray some some love about in your nocturnal travels?
Could you help the so called leaders of this world understand that what they think is right is not always right and they are only human...No one can be expected to be infallible ( except God/Allah/ Yaweh and maybe the mortal leaders of all faiths) So some humility for them would be nice too.
Could we please, perhaps, have no disasters...Natural or manmade for 2006, just so the world can get itself sorted out a bit more. It has been proven we are pretty inept sometimes but mostly we are a generous , caring, compassionate society...Despite some leaders lack of response to some things.
Can I please ask that people realise that the world is a melting pot of differing opinions and that to enforce your beliefs or opinions on others does not make it the right one. Respect of others beliefs and understanding of cultural, religious, and other differences would go a long way to solving our troubles, I think.
Can you please make sure all the children of the world get something tomorrow night? Even if it is something little like a special shell upon a beach or some extra food, toys and such mean little when you have nothing.
For my family , could my children enjoy good health and happiness, and my special "sausage" enjoy his first year at school with minimum disruption, my first born learn that best friends do not stay best friends forever and my youngest continue to be a source of utter amazement to us all with his antics. For my soulmate, my friend, my lover, my eternal love I wish only happiness and health and the occasional sleep in.
For my friends, close and afar, I wish them all the joys of Christmas in the true spirit in which it is meant to be , that they enjoy family, friends, and fine health along with the occasional overeating/overdrinking of what ever they chose to indulge in.
A lot to ask for I know, Santa, and you are busy but without your help with some of the above, I fear for the joy of Christmas future
Thanks
Merry Christmas
Supamum ( u know who I am)
PS Biscuits and milk under the tree, carrots and reindeer food on the lawn as usual

MERRY BLOODY CHRISTMAS

I am ropable today, some person/s without any sense of responsibility or concern for others saw fit to STEAL the 3 foot high bear light we had in our garden. The bear was dressed in a Santa suit and had a candle light which they left behind ( so if you've stolen if for your own garden I will find you next year cause you won't have the candle, revenge is a meal best eaten cold so watch out, arsehole)
We bought the light for the kids as do many people who put up lights and displays, for our kids and the neighborhood kids and the ones who visit every night looking at the lights in the court...Not to win any competition, just for the Christmas spirit of it.

Now I have a 3 year old who wants his teddy back, a 5 year old who wants the other lights down in case someone steals them too and a disillusioned and jaded 8 year old who wonders "why some one would do that because its only for the kids to look at"

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THE ARSEHOLE, BASTARD, DICK BRAIN WHO HASN'T THE SENSE TO SEE HOW THEIR PRANK HAS AFFECTED OTHERS....THEY CUT THE WIRE SO THEY COULD NOT USE IT EVEN WITHOUT MASSIVE REPAIRS AND THEY WENT TO SO MUCH TROUBLE TO REMOVE IT AS IT WAS TIED TO A STAKE TO HELP PREVENT THIS.

I WON'T BE GETTING ANOTHER AND WILL THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT DISPLAYS NEXT YEAR AS WE HAVE ALREADY HAD A WOODEN ELF STOLEN THIS YEAR ALSO.
MAYBE NEXT YEAR ...NO DISPLAY, LET'S WRECK IT FOR EVERYONE EH??

PS: And we just discovered they took the "Santa please stop here" light and a neighbors deer all were cut and are useless to any one really...senseless, just senseless

Almost years end and a boy has grown............

I have been remiss and placing meme's on my posts instead of saying stuff...Its just I have sooooo much to say and meme's were nice and easy, plus I do have a love affair with them and cannot help myself if I find one or am tagged for one.

2005 is coming to a close and Christmas is upon us. Mr 5 had his kindergarten pageant the other day and he was one of the three wise men and looked very WISE indeed. The teachers did a wonderful job with the kids for the concert and the kids loved the "chacha cha" song. I watched him as he and the other wise men we're prompted by the kinder assistant to take their places, as he happily joined in the singing of the "chachacha" song but not the other songs. I watched him as he took his cues from one of the aides as to where he was to sit and what he was to do. I watched as my little boy tried to keep up with the actions of the song he so dearly loved and as he did a bloody good job of it too and I cried.

I cried for all the seemingly insurmountable hurdles I recognised which we have almost overcome, I cried for the fact that his innocence once did not allow him to know he was not as able as other children and that innocence is lost now, I cried because I realise the vast differences in my children as Mr 3 has the speech ability now that Mr 5 currently has. I cried for all the struggles he has had to contend with just to make himself understood. For all the struggles yet to come. Most of all I cried because he is at a stage I was once told he would not attain...That of speaking almost coherently, being able to sit and socialise, and about to attend mainstream school.

He may not be able to speak fluently as you and I know it to be, but in the world of children he manages to make his ideas clear enough for others to follow. I was told he may never be able to have fully comprehensible speech...Well, we will prove them wrong for on the day he graduates Grade Six in 2011 he will read the graduation poem I wrote for the Grade Sixs at the school. This decision is usually left up to the Grade sixs to decide but I will "pull rank" as the author and ask that he read it that year.

I have seen him grow into a little boy who loves Buzz, StarWars, "cool" cars, and who tries hard to instigate play with others, I am glad in a way that none of the children he went to kinder with are attending school with him; yet it is sad. He has a wonderful support network at school with some older boys who often play with him at school and have asked about his speech and behavior and have shown great understanding and patience with him...For them I am very grateful. He also has some siblings of his sisters friends who are in the same class as him next year and he knows these children too. He is my "Sausage Chops" who is now a "big school boy", he has been a constant wonder this year to myself, his therapists, teachers and family and I can only hope that he continues to grow and in growing, to learn.

A puppy is a boys best friend, especially in a world where you feel you have no voice....... Posted by Picasa

Here I am AGAIN!!!

Sorry been busy folks...What's new?, who isn't? And who cares? You say...Well if you said the last comment you can leave the room now, go on, you are not wanted here with your swarmy comments..Have they gone? Good. Nasty little piece that one, not needed here at all!!

Now to continue I have been busy, we went to Portland in Saturday because the PUPPY was ready to come home!!!!* cheers, applause and standing ovation* And we stayed at a FANTASTIC place called Trewalla Springs Farm which is just out towards Cape Bridgewater. The farms house is circa 1850;s and the owners live there we stayed in the school house which still has the black boards and is just great. They have ostriches ( Zambia is a bit agro but fun to watch) emus, Clydesdayles, shetlands, ducks, geese, dogs, deer and the children can feed them all (except Zambia who's agro) they even hitch up the shetland to a jinker and take the kids for rides..Its grand and as far as costs go very very reasonable...So if you've children and are headed that way visit Marilyn and Neill...Oh and Marilyn just happens top be a intergration aide a the local school so we had lots to discuss about special needs kids.

The pup is GREAT and slept most of the way home on Sunday, he is very smart and has take to the family as if he has always been here, Jemma , our other dog has welcomed him and will tolerate his puppy antics until a point ( fair enough) then tells him to be on his way and he takes note and goes to find something else to pester....Like a tree or the swing usually something bigger than him. We have called him Lawson, after Henry Lawson, his full title is something like Cutlers Lawson Silhouette or such.
Profile of Cutlers Lawson
LIKES: eating, running at glass doors, eating children shoes
DISLIKES: nothing yet has no fear instinct yet
TURN ONS: food, food, my squeaky dumb bell
TURN OFFS: the big dog who lives here who won't play all the time, that they don't have Puppy Pal bites on supply 24/7 here
My wish for the world:what"s a world??

Puppies...............................................

Puppies..........this is Pup, he has no name yet. Ain't he cute. He's only three weeks old here. woof woof woof Posted by Picasa

Equal representation = true representation

Local elections are all over bar the shouting, we voted, we decided, we overcame. After years of an inequitable situation where the "representation" of women in the community was left up to the nuances of MEN...We now have not ONE but TWO female representatives on Council. Well done to Ann Potter (Jackson Ward) and Moya White (Aitken Ward)!!!

The concept of real independent, representation stems not from the ideal of non alignment with party polices or guidelines but from the representative taking an advocating role for groups and individuals as well as a spokesperson and representative role for the community who elected them. This is not to say that every little upset and dispute can be solved by the Councillor, but that people have a sounding board who can often explain processes and assist in minimising later problems in the matter. Many people do not realise that Crs have NO control over Council employees. Having female representative allows for accessiblity to a wider part of the community who may not have spoken out before or felt they had true representation.

Councillors who attempt to push their own issues in the guise of the communities issues have a mistaken understanding of their role as a REPRESENTATIVE. The use of a public office, be it local, State or Federal, for the grandstanding and pushing of ones personal agenda is an abuse of the faith placed in a person by the electorate.

I , for one, am glad we now have more women on Council..I'd like to see more but I think it is an unenviable position to take on the role as advocate and spokesperson for so many people with diverse opinions. But I am grateful to those who do, they represent the mother, the female form, and often the voice of reason, they offer another view, another opinion that is not dominated by a tetstorone generated pissing contest.
** With apologies to all my male readers.

I played with Lego...........

I spent yesterday morning on "fruit duty" that's "Claytons fruit duty" , the fruit duty you do when there is no fruit...But I digress. I was on duty at Mr5's kinder which means Mr 3 gets to be a big boy and attend also. I love fruit duty...This is shitting me... Let's call it kinder duty OK?? Like I said, I love kinder duty as it gives me an opportunity to watch Mr 5 in an environment outside of his control ( the kids are not additional needs and all speak well , apart for the two other additional needs kids there) to watch him communicate his needs and ideas to other and how they react and reciprocate (or not).

There is a new Lego set called "Action Man" which has propellers, wingsets, wheels and cockpits for construction of flying machines and space ship which George Lucas will never ,ever think of. Do you think I can find this set of Lego any where...Of course not!!!! It was amazing, the Lego set has been available for play during free time for weeks and all the kids gravitate to it, good thing they have quite a few sets or there'd be trouble. The concepts that these minds come up with and what they put on the "ships' is just beyond comprehension...Their minds are like blank paper and along comes an instrument of creation like a pen and a masterpiece is created. It was wondrous to watch and when asked to build something I could come no where near to the masterpieces these kids created.

I watched and helped some girls cut and paste some balls for a juggling clown, listened to them chatter and chatted with them...One is going to Italy on a cruise for a holiday at Christmas, she tells me...I was later told by the teacher this is a fib and she is only saying it because her friend did go on a cruise to Italy. One upmanship and competiveness starts at 4 it seems.

I was involved in a conspiracy to hide one of the teachers shoes, I built a landing pad with wooden blocks for a the spaceships, I painted funny pictures whilst they ate their snacks, I played with play dough, made cakes and pizzas and "ate" them, I coloured, read ,painted and kicked, climbed the fort (one child would not leave it when it was time to go back into the classroom) I had a ball...dunno about the kids but I had fun.

Nearly the years end....

Sadly, it is almost the years end and time will definitely fly for the remainder of the year. I still have to wait and see if Mr 5 has gained any funding at school, although given that he has had an one hour orientation session he, the teacher/s seem very aware of his limitations and asked about pencil grips (something they picked up on without my mentioning it) and if he signs at all for words he cannot pronounce. We did not encourage sign (Auslan or other) as it would allow him an "out" for trying to say the word...Whilst he understands some signs, he has never been encouraged to sign instead of speak.
I still have to source a speech pathologist(S/P) for him as he cannot access his s/p at EIP after he starts school and she is leaving to have a baby this week anyway. I want a private one anyway so they can attend meetings with the school and teachers and such...But many do not know what their client base is until December so he is on umpteen waiting lists. Some do not even call you back , even after 4 messages!!! And others you get references for from the Victorian Independant Speech pathologists Network and some of them are associated or work through bigger offices so if you pick a S/P based on credentials (what else would you choose them on...LOOKS?) You get a call back from an admin person who tries to allocate you one who has to drive by your town on the way to the office instead of the one you choose based on credentials!!!!!! If I want convenience I go to 7-11, if I want a S/P I pick the most relevant and experienced.
Mr 5 was very exited about his new, "whizz bang" school bag and I am thankful to the designer who has placed a drawstring net bag attachment on the side so drink bottles which are unsealed can leak happily everywhere but INSIDE the bag. We also have a art smock with racing cars on it and a library bag with rockets on it (I was told we could not use the Thomas Tank Engine library bag he has for kinder as" big boys at school don't do Thomas") we have shorts and polos for summer, his sisters old sports shorts will fit him and her tracksuit pants. I am leaving winter pants till later in term 2 as I am sure he has some growing to do. Shoes we will get in January as well as new ones for Miss 8, new runners for her and Mr 5 has a brand new pair of Nikes which a friend bought for her son but are the wrong size and for yet fit Mr 5 perfectly.

some people have Christmas decorations going up already, I think it is the influence of the shops who had lights and decos on sale as early as three weeks ago. I am dreading getting the lights out at they were put up in a rush last year and put away in almost as much haste. They seem to be a tangled puzzle which I know I have to tackle some time but keep finding other things to do , like cleaning the toilet, washing windows, digging garden beds...You get the picture.

Truth, fact and undeniabilty

I have been listenng and watching(listening in the car , watching the DVD) a concert by Melissa Etheridge. It was to launch her album "LUCKY" which is goodness knows how old. On it is a brillant song which is track 9 on the album and I think is called "Up and Down this Road I go" its about a guy who was on Flight 93 on Sept 11,2001. About how "he loved his mom, her loved his dad,he loved his home and he loved his man", its about "who you love is'nt who you are" , She sings of the fact that "you cannot change this , you cannot erase this , you cannot pretend this is not a truth" its about no matter who you are, or what label people put on you that we are all equal when it comes down to it.
I have always been a person who has accepted people on face value not creed, race, religion, sexual preference or any other aspects on which bias and hatred is fueled. This story goes a long way to proving that diversity is the key to our society, that it matters not what the diffference is (percieved or otherwise) it is acceptance which is the key. You don't need to understand it all, just accept that we are not all the same and regardless of that, we all have something to offer the world and sometimes it might just be sacrficing our life for others.

And for the record ,I have always liked Melissa Etheridges music, even before she "came out" and I have even more respect for her as a survivor of breast cancer.

You have to laugh............

Had a peek at SOL
Seems that very few people are talking on there of late, I mean views that women should be home with their kids, and they would not have time to run for Council as a mother...Well maybe others are better organised than some and can. If we all held to that belief, the rights our mothers fought for would be wasted. Other comments of the ilk that because you don't come on line to answer to questions you are denying the community access...So are the running mates and preferences of the commentator. Then a topic about ALP branch stacking, today's AGE newspaper reports the same in Govt. Looks like its a political pandemic!!!!!!!

Then there's the old furphy about paedophiles, well, its not the ones you know about you have to worry about it's the one you don't. I can hardly see the realistic application of the proposed "paedophile free zone" what before you can buy a house you need to agree to a police check?? Before you can move to the area and rent whilst building?? Untenable, and unachievable. Amoral and illegal. If people look out for their kids and take responsibility and teach them to
be aware, the risks are limited. Research shows that paedophiles work for months to gain trust of a victim, if the kids are aware they learn to be knowledgeable but not afraid of their own shadow.

And then there's the other stuff but I am tired now and if you wish to read it all, use the link on the side of the page and have a giggle
Don't forget to change you shirt, you might be on TV today!!!

Ain't technology great........

Any one tried an iPod lately? Yes I know most people are either Apple or PC, Mac or IBM but I got one for 2IC few months ago and it is the best, download of the net OOOOPS I mean from your own music library OOOOPS thats not right either is it. .... well you download LEGALLY. And just keep loading and loading. Charge it up via the USB port on the PC whilst loading, sound quality is good, its versitile and compact and at about $150 about as much as we used to pay for a decent discman or walkman. Consider it for a pressie for someone special as I have really come to appreciate how cool they are as 2IC has his on all the time too and from work.

In so far as stereo, TV, DVD/video comglomerations go, who thought of them....an airline pilot??, NASA astronaut???, the guy who invented Rubiks cube??? Three remotes for three components, what happened to life being easier?? I hate the AV1/AV2/ Component/and whatever bloody well else is there; to try and go from DVD to video, it shits me. Sorry peoples, Mr 5 has been on a rampage with switching from DVD to video for the ONE hour I have allowed him to watch a movie or such, so he has managed to watch about 5 minutes of each of the following:
Shark Tales, Thunderbirds, Star Wars, Thomas the tank Engine, Rescue Heroes and Robots.
Bye and don't forget to claen the shower!!!!!!!!!

From the wisdom of Mr Brian all I can post is the following:
People can be ignorant and not be prejudiced, but one cannot be prejudiced without being ignorant.

Dicko

Tufts of cloud, free
Amidst a blue, blue sky
That's what I'll think of
As I say
Goodbye.
The quintessential larrikin
Australian through and through
Jesus, Mary and Joseph...
Dicko
I'm going to miss you.
A husband to my cousin dear,
A sister I could not hold nearer,
Best every father to four fantastic boys
Now men; tall,strong and proud,
Four blond heads bobbing in the pool
With a Dad who always made time.
Teaching them things about trucks and cars,
Playing "frogger", sending canetoads to the stars
Chants of "Lilliee" still rent the air,
As amongst the clouds I search
And hope that you have found
the rest and freedom
you deserve.
But clouds make no sound.
Love you, Dicko...See ya
IN memory of my cousin, Richard, who died last 1st November, 2005 and will be cremated today.

What are the police for???

It appears there is a conflict in statements as to what happened to a well known commentator whilst at a beachside resort. If what is claimed to have happened, by either party, happened....go to the police. All that is happening now is a media circus, with all the damage being borne by the resort and prospective tourist revenue losses. Why was there the need to go to the media instead of the police?? Why are losses such a a $1200 earring being touted about? Threats of legal action against the parents of the alleged instigators...Any solicitor, not in it for a buck ,will tell anyone that is a waste of time without police charges being laid. If the concern is for the material losses (earring, prescription glasses) many such items are covered by the household insurance and I really think that if the incident occurred with Joe Bloggs involved it would not have made the impact it has. As it stands, neither party has seen fit to go to the police...The locals perhaps because they feel it was nothing, the other party because...Who knows. As an ex policeman, you'd think it'd be the first thing done...Reporting the incident. But time will tell, I guess or big bucks for a good mouthpiece in court.

Born Before 1986????????

Snooping about the Blogespere I found this little gem, thanks to xloso for sharing and Carl whoever you are..a trip down memory lane for many

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60's, 70's and early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans.
When we rode our bikes we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's on our wheels. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat selts or airbags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same. We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing.
We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no-one actually died from this.We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into stinging nettles a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded. We did not have Playstations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no DVDs, no Internet chat rooms. We had friends - we went outside and found them.
We fell out of trees, got cut, and broke bones but there were no law suits. We had full on fist fights but no prosecution followed from other parents. We played knock-knock-runaway and were actually afraid of the owners catching us.We walked to friends' homes. We also walked to school; we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls. We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood.

I'm BAAAAAACK.........................

Well I think I am out of my frump but then again is is probably PMD or just with Cup Day holiday and curriculum day Monday, my little sense of control over my little world and all that live in it was out and so was I ....Make sense??? No? Tough!
I am watching with interest the outcomes of preferences for the local election, some people have been dudded it seems, others 150 word info blurbs actually support other candidates who do not reciprocate in theirs. Interestingly, a vision of rats jumping a sinking ship comes to mind.
I won two prizes in a Stay At Home (SAH) raffle on Friday night, those who are unfamiliar with this type of fundraising read on , every one else...Well, skip on or buzz off. A SAH raffle is run the same as a regular raffle but you put you phone number on the ticket with your name. From a certain time on the designated night they commence drawing the tickets ( and drinking ,I hear tell) prizes are lined up or in another draw and you answer your phone and get told what you have won. You have to be home and answer the phone to win and drawing continues until all prizes are won. I won a SLAB............(hahaha made you look ) of soft drink (24 cans) and a flower pot. And I only bought 5 tickets. Too Good.

Miss 8 has almost finished Harry Potter And the Philosophers Stone (HP1) however ,by the time school is over today she will have finished it as I noted she left her hat at home which will designate her to the shaded area at lunch today where I know she will read. They say from the mouths of babes come gems.... I was told today that HP is the best book she has ever read (this is saying something as she reads Enid Blyton, Lauren Child, Gretal Killeen, Megan McDonald, Ronald Dahl et.al) because" you feel like you are really there". She showed little interest in reading it before now and has finished it in four days. Onwards to HP2???

Mr 5 asked for a "friend" to came over after kinder today...Given that the mother is one of the 22 whom I have rubbed the wrong way...I was apprehensive and then came the lifesaver in that the child says "yeah, I want to come because he has Buzz and Buzz's rocketship and Lego like at kinder" Not because he is the friend my son thinks he is, but because of what he has. So there was a NO to that little escapade. I have had enough "friends" over to play with him who only play with his toys or worse still if there is more than one child over, they exclude him. He was happy enough to come home and play in the sand pit with his brother and the new "tagtors" (tractors) Mr 3 got for his birthday.
Tomorrow is Oaks Day at the Spring Racing Carnival otherwise known as Ladies Day....For a laugh you could park by the main stations to many suburbs in Melbourne and outer Melb for that fact and watch the inebriated toddle home in $500 dresses with heels they'll never wear again. And yes, I could have got marqee tickets but no one asked.
Bye and don't forget to hose out the milking shed.

Some things you might like to know.....OR Not

Quick entry today busy busy.........Mr 3 had his official party yesterday with cake and presents and balloons and friends.
And thank you to my BIL (brother in law) for breaking the back of one of the stools the kids use at the breakfast bar....Took 6 trips to IKEA to find the bastard chairs and the kids have been banging about on them for 6 months without breaking them and you do it in a minute...Stupid tosser asshole. And people really need to know that it is a kids party and that staying until 10pm is a bit too much.
And whilst I am at it...NO ,I DO NOT HAVE A TIP FOR THE MELBOURNE CUP....Despite my Da having racehorses, and a well known trainer being his trainer and a well known equine specialist vet being a co owner...I have no tips. I detest horseracing. Geez I am in a frump today better go before I really let off some steam. Don't forget to bring the washing in if it rains...........

Happy Birthday to my baby

Today is Mr Almost 3's Third Birthday....So he is now Mr 3!!! Actually not really till 1334 today but hey, birthdays are an all day affair. It is strange to have no baby in the house any more with as by the time the others were this age there was a baby about so it is a very strange feeling. No!!! I am not contemplating another.
I am not that selfless that I am able to do the night feeds, walking the floor and such with the unquestionable dedication that I hear others doing. Although I read about a book titled the "Myths of Motherhood" or such and how we all hate the sleep deprivation, the confinement ,the routine, etc and that it is really HARD WORK and psychologically and physically draining and anyone who tells you otherwise or neglects to tell you the 80% bad stuff is perpetuating the myth.

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BABY BOY...Although he tells me he is not a baby but he will always be my baby. He was the last, he is the youngest, he is the happiest (for now) Just as Miss 8 is my baby girl because she was the first and is the only girl, Mr 5 is my baby boy because he was the first boy. They are and will always be ,my babies.

The decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk around outside of your body Posted by Picasa

Last Man Standing has stood

You may recall my slight fixation with a locally produced TV program "LAST MAN STANDING" which sadly and unfortunately was cancelled a few weeks ago and aired its last episode last night. Any one who wants some insight into the show, read the blurb on the link above it also has some great piccies of the very spunky (I think so anyway) Rodger Corser who plays Adam.

I am sorry the show has finished as it was a good Australian production, writing and casting...Despite my nit picking about location errors. I am sorry that I will no longer have my Tuesday night perve at half naked men, gasp at the audacity of machoism and chauvinism, revel in the reality of it in relation to real life situations, and swear at the sexism ...But then so are thousands of others who are just not game enough to admit this.

Like I said before it was like Sex In the City for men, but it's women who were the majority viewers and some aren't ready to confront such realities head on yet. Goodby Adam, Cameron and Bruno you will be missed by some. And I hope Marieke Hardy writes another series soon!!!!!!!!!

Where have I been?

No one really cared enough to ask (except one) so I'm not telling!!! See now I'm all shitty and sulky. I have been damn busy is all. Busy busy busy. Doing doin doing lots of stuff...So there PHAAAAAAAT!!!!

Mr Almost 3 is three next week so we had to go shopping for a birthday present, and found a few items to ask Father Christmas for for the others. Nice that the shops have all the Christmas stuff out NOW....TWO WHOLE MONTHS BEFORE YULETIDE!!!!!! Miss 8 has asked if Santa will still come if we are getting the puppy early...Santa told me it was ok because the puppy needs to know he has a family BEFORE Christmas comes. This is very important to Santa as he needs to know that the puppy will be happy, loved and looked after before he delivers presents.

2IC has been ill (STILL) and amidst losing his voice and coughing fits and lack of sleep, I convinced him that he needed to attend the doctor again, which ended in 3 days away from work, a blood test, chest x ray, 3rd lot of antibiotics and a dose of steroids. I say three days away from work as that's all it was as he worked from home on the laptop and mobile.
I have been gyming it big time at least two nights per week and walking whenever possible, doing the garden, planting some seeds, this and that.

Mr 5 is doing ok but getting very angry and frustrated as he is being pushed to his upper limits at the moment by kinder and EIP in order to "condition" him for school a bit. Most days he doesn't want to attend kinder, hates it and tells me all the kids are "rats" (brats)...But so am I a brat when he is angry with me.

I have been on a cooking binge trying new recipes and "fibbing" about the content to the kids ..."Yes, that is chicken...Its just cut different" "no, no , it's not stir fry..Its pasta and vegies"

Oh well got to go, got washing to fold, you know the drill, don't forget to feed the fish....................

Pup, pup, puppies

Well, the pups have been born, there are NINE, there was 11 but two were stillborn ( it happens). Miss 8 has not stopped asking about when we get it, what to name it, will it look like Chauncy (the sire) what colour will it be, etc, etc. The pups are at Portland and our friend who is a stickler for training ,likes pups to trained from 6 weeks..I advocate this too. The after 12 week thing is a breeder issue to do with infections and such, if the dog socialises with vaccinated dogs, it cannot catch anything..It NEEDS to socialize before the rough play behavior and status levels kick in , before someone mistakes themselves as the ALPHA DOG. You see in my house, I AM THE ALPHA DOG/CAT!!!!

So hopefully we will get the pup in early December, in plenty of time for Christmas (early present). Miss 8 wants to train the dog, I told her she can help and I will train it and she can compete (Fun Day competitions) But I will be taking the dog into OBEDIENCE comps....Yes, I am re entering the realm of the obedience ring after a eight year break, last competition I was in I was 7 months pregnant with Miss 8. I have a lot to learn as the gradings have changed, the exercises have changed, event the titles for the dogs have changed.

This dog will be very important to us as our friends will choose it for us, his dog is the sire and he and his wife taught us almost all we know about dogs and obedience training. They no longer compete; as he is ill, so this in a way is a legacy to ensure that something carries on. This has never been spoken of but between friends such as us...Words are not needed. He is a man of few emotions, but of great honour whom we respect greatly. They are like surrogate grandparents to our children. And I will achieve with this dog all that he is capable of and ensure the legacy lives on in my children too.

Time to move.........

"The forward youth that would appear
Must now forsake his Muses dear,
Nor in the shadows sing
His number languishing:
Tis' time to leave the books in dust,
And oil the unused armour's rust,
Removing from the wall
The corslet of the hall."
from An Horatian Ode, Andrew Marvell

On Cromwells return from Ireland in 1650 before he took action against the Scots .

I am on a roll now, after yesterdays early intervention session and talking to the other mums in the group, I have come to the timely realisation that there is a HUGE gap in the systems which support children with additional needs as well as others. Not just in the education sector, but support services, information access, Government assistance schemes, you name it. As for my self I have become a sponge for absorbing information from others who are happy to pass it on, for many it is just too much to take in when your child is young, initially diagnosed, you have other children. All these services, information, funding etc, need to be

1) Easily and readily accessible

2) Found in one area or with valid, quick to locate links and cross references

It needs to be in a folder format with interchangeable pages as info changes available at doctors, pediatrician, community health centres, pre schools, where ever ...Not every one is PC savvy, Web literate or even wants to spend hours on the www looking up stuff. It also needs to be on the Web. Stuff like continence nurse information, assistance with continence aides, respite care (this takes many forms )Govt assistance (Carers Allowance, Carers Payments or even just a Health Care card for your child), speech pathologist and therapist listings, OT and physio listings, the funding system for both Govt, independent and religious schools, the lists and information seems endless. It is vast and it is varied. I have meet people with kids with bed wetting and toileting issues who are not defined by additional needs but who knew nothing of continence nurses, funding for aides, medical assistance available..Who just thought they had to struggle along with this unhappy child and the ongoing issues.

I cannot believe the amount of information, assistance and funding there is out there and that to locate it requires half a day on the telephone, dialing six numbers, talking to seven people and a cut lunch!!!!

Same goes for the Net, for example, there is an assistance with ongoing therapy available through Medicare known as Enhanced Care Plan, it involves paperwork being completed by the GP to an allied health professional who must be registered with the HIC (Health Insurance commission)it covers Aboriginal Health Workers, Audiologists, Dieticians, Mental Health Workers,OT's, Physio's, Podiatrist or chiropodist, Chiropractor, Osteopath, Psychologist, and SP's. The completion of these forms allow for a rebate of $45.00 per session for any of these services up to FIVE per calendar year....Well worth the paperchase. But is this on the Medicare site...NO. Call Medicare and no one knows what you are talking about. This is my point, the assistance is there but poorly advertised, non accessible and information poor.

I am going to start compiling information in relation to services, funding, assistance, whatever, primarily for additional needs kids but hopefully it will encompass and cross over into some aspects of regular kids who just need a bit of help with this or that. It is something which needs to be done, should be done and I will try and get it done. Any one who reads this blog who knows of any such services (Australia only)which I might not know of, please drop me a line with details. I will also look at including help groups and discussion groups although from my personal point of view they are a bit daunting, inaccessible and non feasible if you have other kids and limited child care options, but I am happy enough to list them.

LEGAL NOTE: Any smartie who thinks they might steal the idea as a money spinner or just as your own, beware, it has been listed with a copyright registration as a idea owned by ME!!!!DON'T BOTHER

Thinking Reality not numbers

Ohhh shit , have heard about people posts being "eaten" now have to say I too have had the experience....So I will start again. I have been successful in getting Mr 5's paperwork submitted to the Catholic Education Office(CEO) for funding for 2006. This is after his cognitive scores were borderline but too high for part time entry to the local special school, his speech pathology assessment scores not indicative of anything other than language disorder, even if the term dyspraxia was used it has to be SEVERE to qualify. And his Global Developmental Delay (GDD) is no longer global given that he has mastered and come into line with some of the skills of children of his age.
After last week, I sat and thought about the future and what he has now and has a right to have...If we sit back and let everyone tell us that this is the way it is nothing changes for any one, EVER. My child does not meet any criteria set by bureaucrats because they are just that, not parents, not carers, not therapists. Why should a child need to fit into a diagnostic box?? Nothing is ever black and white but many shades of grey, I was always taught. So on this basis, I moved forward...To the Director of the CEO. 24 hours later I received a very NICE call from the special services co ordinator, I put our case to her, told her that Mr 5 does not fit into any set category but together his associated issues qualify for further investigation, his scores do not permit him to be considered for funding but overall he is a child who will struggle in the classroom, the playground and the social environment of mainstream school. I was not willing to take a "wait and see" approach in regards to his step in the realm of formal education. There is no going back once on this track, only being kept back. I am a person of action and believe in pro activity, hence why I went into bat for consideration outside the realm of numbers and scores. For what good it will do, the principal has been instructed by the CEO to submit a funding request for Mr 5 for 2006. I will be submitting (for anyone else who might like to take it on) the following:
1) pediatrician letter in support of an intergration aide ( I actually asked for a letter outlining his diagnosis/es over the past years and got a support letter)
2) Speech pathology Assessment report (CELF-P) showing scores
3) cognitive Assessment report complete with Vineland scores
4) Supporting paper work showing him to be a danger to himself and others which gained additional assistance for pre school.
Having been told by the principal that based on the cognitive scores it was not worth applying for funding, you really have to wonder about why they want everything neat and tidy , labeled and boxed. If I had let this lie, I would not be where we are now, which is significantly further than last week as the application goes in tomorrow. The submission serves several purposes:
1) If declined, they at least have the paperwork, so that WHEN they decide he has a learning problem which requires assistance, they can apply for a second round of funding. (NOTE : I say "when" not "if")
2) that in the event that something happens to my child or another as a result; direct or otherwise, of his limitations..I have fully disclosed the possibilities of such to the school and the governing body by way of this paperwork. They will have not forfilled their duty of care in support services for him.
3) that in the supply of the information to the school I am ensuring that my child's limitations and/or condition will not be discussed with another parent in the event of an incident, as that would be a breach of confidentiality .

I am tired of trying to make others understand and be open about my child's limitations in an attempt for him to be accepted by his peers, all it has done to date is cause bias, judgment and vilification. If you don't tell, they cannot talk. No longer will I explain my child's condition to another parent, his sister just says "he has special needs" although she understands the way in which his brain does not allow his vocabulary to work ("broken wires from the stereo to the speaker") if any one asks, and I doubt they will, I will want to know why... For often it is for gossip only and not genuine empathy or care.

So for parents/carers of additional needs children, take note, accept nothing as the end of the rope, go over other heads, ask for another opinion if it sounds wrong or unjust. You are the only voice your child has right now, they need your mind to be a storm, your voice ..Thunder, your words need to be like lightening. There is a way to make that round peg fit into that square hole.

Puppies, Puffers, and Speechies

Have been VERY busy last few days, what with school returning for the last term and the eldest being sick with asthma, 2ic sick and refusing to see a Doctor or take time off work. Reports to file, research to do,papers to write, stuff to get ready, things to do, people to see, puppies to view...Yes, that's right folks, puppies to view (get to that later)

Miss 8 had an infection which has long gone but the by product being asthma(activity induced) which leaves her coughing and tired, a visit to the GP yesterday confirmned the fact that the asthma has not gone and has gotten worst....Great and we all thought she was growing out of it. So back to preventatives and meds again.
I have been trying to gain access to a speech pathologist (SP)for Mr 5 for 2006 also as he will not be able to see his existing one as she is leaving on maternity leave at the end of November, plus she works primarily with the EIP groups and we are unsure if/when she will be returning in 2006 anyway...I'd pay anything for her to continue as his SP but it's not to be. We are on 3 waiting lists for SP's as they have to wait to see if their current patient load will decrease at the end of the year or not before committing to new patients. I do not want him to start school without ongoing SP but finding one is harder than I thought, it seems to be the job of choice for part time work and job sharing as none seem to work full time (MORE POWER TO THEM I SAY) Must say some of the them are very organised with CV's and costings being sent out within days of placing him on a list... Some even have teaching degrees which is brilliant as his therapy may have to be incorporated into the curriculum. So have to wait and hope he gets in with someone.

We have decided that the children are old enough for another dog, both of us grew up with dogs and we have one now but Jemma is now 11. We always had two but lost Tolkien 4 years ago he was 13 and should never had died, but for a corn cob thrown over the fence by a neighbor's child which Tolkien ate, it got caught in his lower intestine damaging the tissues on the way. Miss 8 still has his picture up in her room, they were inseparable. Having trained two Australian Cattle Dogs in obedience, had them as pets and farm dogs, we have looked at something different this time round. Some very good friends have had Koolies for many years and all our kids have grow up knowing these peoples dogs. Koolies are a working dog breed so have the stamina and brains to be able to be trained, are a tad bored with repetition which is fine with me as I like to train my dogs at one level ahead of what they actually compete in. But they are a very social dog ( most dogs can be if socialised properly) which is what we want for the children. The colours, sizes and coat styles come in many hues and types..It's wondrous. Our friends have also been at us to get another dog and suggested a Koolie for many years, now these are two people who between them have over 50 years experience in the dog world so it is not a recommendation we take lightly. On Sunday we visited with our friends at the clubs meeting, met some very nice Koolie owners and people who understand their dogs and are working towards DNA testing of all Koolies for breed histories and family links. And had a great time catching up with our friends, it seems that our friends dog has sired a litter( due 18th October) to a very nice bitch (yes, female dogs are bitches in the dog world and I will not apologize for using the word in the correct context) we know the history of both dogs and have seen the mother of the sire as well as the sisters and half sister of the dam. So we hope that all going well , we will be able to have a puppy before Christmas. We want a male as we already have a bitch and they would get on together better. A pup would bring more life into Jem not that she's lacking but it'd brighten her up a bit too. The kids loved the Koolies and there were two pups there which our tribe demanded "we take home" but they were Jack Russell crosses who had been rescued....These people take their dogs very, very seriously and one member runs a Koolie rescue and adoption service and she is also a registered Obedience judge...So this is how serious the proper promotion and protection of the breed is taken.

Voluntary Tag

I ,again, put my hand up for Jamie to ask any questions, I have to answer them and list a reason why. Here's the rules for any one who dares.
1. If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying, "interview me".
2. I will respond by asking you five questions - each persons will be different.
3. You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
Jamies questions of me:

1. What is your favorite childhood memory? Standing on the fence by the milking shed watching the cows get milked and seeing how happy they were, the smell(?), the coldness of the air, the freedom of it.
2. What is the most important thing that you teach your children?
Acceptance and understanding, with these they will I hope be better people in a world of hate and suspicion.
3. If you were to leave one thing behind when you die, what would it be and why?Tangible, my wedding ring, my mothers wedding ring and my grandmothers wedding ring, all of which I wear now because all signify the unity which allowed the next generation to be born. Intangible: happy, laughing memories for my family
4. What one thing would you change about your past, if you could? That my mother did not die when she did or that I was not so ANGRY with the world for so long about her dying and me and mine having to live without her.
5. Thoughts on reincarnation? My religious teaching tells me that the soul goes to "heaven", my logic tells me it is the "soul plus something else" unsure of what, my experience has shown me that those who have gone come back in some form when you need them.

SLD but still no help.....So where does it start??

Got Mr 5's SP report yesterday, short of boring all and sundry with the techno terms; it boils down to the fact that he has a Severe Language Disorder (SLD) but as his Clinical Evaluation Of Language fundamentals-Preschool (CELP-P) test shows his receptive language to be 69, expressive language to be 69 with a total language score of 67, the mean being 100 and a standard deviation being 15..He still would not qualify for help in the Govt system as his score needs to be 55. This is despite him being "delayed in articulation skills as he can be unintelligible and the word and phrase level" and that "these factors will have a significant impact on his learning and language skills".

Yes, I know I have beaten this dead horse so much, but the fact that there are so many kids out there with similar issues; they have a problem which does not fall into a clear cut category in the world of DET but the refusal to acknowledge that these condition/s will ultimately affect a child's learning abilities seems to be lost on the Minister and her cronies. Given that parents can fight and fight but soon wear out, leaving their child to struggle in a supposed learning environment without PSG's(Program Support Group) or even an IEP(individual education program) without the therapies promised or even any at all...Where is the responsability to the child? Where does a educational facilities role as an educator cease to be feasible because of the child's condition/s? Who makes such a call and who declared them God? State schools only obligation is to get the child to Grade 2 level of reading/comprehension, I know parents who have questioned the help their children are/are not receiving to be told this by principals. Where do teachers obligations now lie? With keeping to budget and not making it too hard for themselves? Or are there still the unjaded ones who are in it for the "right" reasons and genuinely care enough to help, support and encourage??
I can fight, I can fight for my child FOREVER for what he needs, but what he and all kids who fall in the "cracks" of the system really need is a voice, lots of them, loud angry ones full of upset, soft spoken voices of reason, voices who speak through the power of the pen, negotiator with a clear mind, advocates who can speak objectively, everyone has some of these attributes and more for a child; be it their own or another.
People need to not accept the restrictions placed on support services supplied to their children based on the Government policy (and I am speaking of whatever Govt..Not inasmuch a political party) Ministers need to be "EDUCATED" in what their decisions mean to the children at the coal face and what it means to the teachers of these children. Until we do, our children will remain without a voice, will have lost the opportunity to be the future and have had the right to forfil their own potential taken from them.
